The ocean is unpredictable

Swimming, snorkeling, surfing, bodyboarding and even walking near the water in Hawaiʻi can lead to serious injury or death. Surf, currents and weather can change quickly, and conditions at a beach on the day you visit may be very different from what any guide describes. The information on Best Beaches Hawaii is general travel information. It is not a safety assessment of any beach on any day, and it does not replace the instructions of lifeguards, posted signs, park staff or official advisories. When in doubt, stay out of the water.

Accuracy and changes

We try to keep every guide accurate and we cite official sources, but we cannot guarantee that every detail is complete or current. Lifeguard coverage, parking, fees, reservation rules, closures and laws change over time. Please check current information with the relevant county, state or park authority before you go.

Your responsibility

You are responsible for your own decisions and for the safety of anyone in your care, including children. Know your swimming ability, supervise children closely, obey closures and signs, and follow the rules that protect wildlife and cultural sites.
